* To learn the functional academic, life, communication and social skills that will allow us to utilize school and community resources to our fullest potential.

*To become productive and successful members of our school and community.

*To apply skills and academics learned through the Alabama Extended Standards Curriculum to our school and community experiences.

Behavioral Procedures:

*Each student has a "Star Card". A student earns a star for completing work or trying hard. Five stars earned = the student break of choice.

*Each student has a "Strike Card". After three strikes, the student goes to Time Out. Behaviors that result in earning a strike include: saying "no" to an adult; making a mess; screaming/yelling once; refusing a request.

*Behaviors that earn an immediate Time Out include: running in hallways; cursing; hitting/kicking; spitting; and, taking things that belong to others.

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español!

Course Description:
This course is designed to help students with the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish and fulfill one of the electives credits required for high school. The focus of this class is on communication in Spanish and the understanding of Hispanic culture.

Materials for Class
2 composition notebooks (for notes and homework) and (for Interactive notebook)
1 ream of copy paper
2 boxes of tissues
1 hand sanitizer

Textbooks and workbook:
Students would be working from the “Buen Viaje” and “Relidades” series and other selected resources; they will also work in the links provide below and follow class assignments in the Carr web.

Assessment
Students will be evaluated via tests, interactive notebooks, projects, class work, homework, participation in class, and conduct using MPS regulations:
65% Tests, interactive notebooks, and projects and/or presentations
30% Classwork, quizzes, and participation
5% Homework

A (90-100) B (80-89) C (70-79) D (60-69) F (59 and below)

Quizzes, Projects, and Test: Quizzes will be given every Friday. Tests are announced ahead of time, as well as projects. Talking during a test or quiz will result in a zero without the chance to make it up. Homework need to be complete at home!

Tutoring: It will be only offer for Spanish class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:35-3:35 PM. and Mrs. Hidalgo needs to be notify in advanced by email.

Reading Specialist: Sra. Vazquez is our Spanish reading specialist and every assignment given by her is graded. She comes twice a month to our class.

Classroom Rules
Be Respectful
• Raise your hand before you speak or leave your seat.
• Respect yourself and others by keeping your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
• Follow directions first time given.
• Turn off electronic devices (cell phones, mp3 players, IPods, etc) for the duration of the class period.
• Respect the teacher’s property and the property of other students in class.
Be Resourceful
• Know where to collect supplies.
• Bring all materials to class.
• Use time widely.
• Be proactive with your work.
• Follow the attendance policy stated in the MPS student handbook
• If your responsibility to make up missed work within the time stated in the handbook.
• Speak Spanish; there is a participation grade during class discussions.
Be Responsible
• Arrive on time, and ready to learn. Tardiness will not be tolerated.
• Follow classroom procedures.
• Use common sense
• Turn quality work in on time.
• No food, drinks, gum, and/or candy in the classroom.

2. Agenda
Agenda is posted daily according to your grade level on the white board. You must
be in your seat working on the agenda by the time the bell rings. You must start on
the “before” label. We will do the “during” together. Then you will do the “after”
on your own. You must also copy your homework.

3. Absences/make up work
Make-up work is your responsibility to ask for and turn in to me. It is your
responsibility to check for missed assignments on the designed area or get notes from
the school website, or from any classmates. Absences policies will follow the MPS
guidelines listed on your student handbook.

4. Hall Passes
I will not be giving hall passes to lockers. You will only have one emergency pass per
week. Use it wisely. If you are out of the room excessively, parent will be contacted.

5. Lecture
Sit quietly during note taking, Spanish class is short period and we need to use our
time wisely. Raise your hand if you have questions or relevant comments. You will
not be allowed to leave the classroom during lectures unless it is an emergency or you
are called out in the office.

6. Individual work
Individual work is to be completed silently unless otherwise told. If you have
questions, raise your hand. Do not disturb others around you.

7. Presentations
Sit quietly during presentations. Give your classmates your undivided attention. Do
not get up from your seat unless it is an emergency. Take notes and be prepared for
your turn.

8. Group activities
Each group member will have a role. All group members must stay on-task. When
working in groups, you must use your inside voices (soft voices).

9. Speaking activities
Only speak in Spanish. Using English won’t help you to practice Spanish.

10. Leaving class and craft activities
Two minutes before the bell ring you must put all your stuffs together, return any
book, workbook or supply to the designated areas. Do not leave any trash on desk or on the
floor. If you see trash or supplies left out, pick it up, even if it is not yours.
