About Our School

Johnnie R. Carr Middle School, established in 2009, is named after noted Civil Rights leader, Johnnie R. Carr.  This impressive 118,00 square foot building is located in East Montgomery.  One unique feature of the school is its adoption of the school within a school model.  Offering both traditional and magnet programs, Carr Middle is on the  leading edge of curriculum and academics.   In 2014, our school was approved as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

What are the Benefits?

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) is designed to teach students to become independent learners who can discover the  relationships between school, subjects, and the world. MYP emphasizes the study of eight disciplines:

English (Language A)

Foreign Language (Language B)

Physical Education

 MYP Highlights

In order to fully embrace IB, each grade level is divided into two continental teams that work together to establish common expectations, discuss academic and behavioral concerns, and share research-based strategies and interventions as they plan interdisciplinary units.
